Repairs
Hot water repairs
Not every dead hot water system needs replacing. A pilot light that will not hold, a tripped thermostat, a failed element or a perished tempering valve are all repairs we complete on the first visit, usually for a fraction of a new unit.
We carry common parts for the brands sold across Bayside Melbourne, so if it is repairable we can generally have it running before we leave. If it is not, we will tell you plainly rather than sell you a repair that buys a fortnight.
- Pilot light and thermocouple faults
- Thermostats and elements
- Tempering valve replacement
- Leaking fittings and connections
- Gas control valve failures
- Noisy or knocking tanks
- Pressure reducing valve replacement
Replacements
Hot water system replacement
Most storage systems last 8 to 12 years. When yours goes, the priority is getting hot water back fast. We stock the common gas and electric replacements, so a like-for-like swap can often be turned around quickly.
If you want to change type or size, we will talk through running costs, recovery rate and the space you have before quoting. Old unit removed and disposed of, new unit commissioned, compliance certificate issued.
- Like-for-like swaps
- Correct sizing for your household
- Old unit removal and disposal
- Compliance certificate issued
- Tempering valve replaced
- Manufacturer warranty registered
Gas systems
Gas hot water systems
Gas remains the cheapest way to run hot water in most Melbourne homes. Storage units suit households that draw a lot at once, while continuous flow units give unlimited hot water from a compact wall-mounted box.
Sizing matters more than brand. We match the unit to your number of bathrooms, simultaneous outlets and existing gas line capacity, because an undersized continuous flow unit will disappoint every winter morning.
- Storage and continuous flow
- Correct gas line sizing
- Indoor and external installs
- Flue and clearance compliance
- Licensed gas fitting
- Carbon monoxide safety checks
Electric systems
Electric hot water systems
Electric storage is the straightforward option where gas is not available, and off-peak tariffs still make it economical for households that can heat overnight. Continuous electric suits smaller homes and units with lower daily draw.
We handle the plumbing and coordinate the electrical side so the changeover happens in one visit rather than two trades on two days.
- Off-peak and continuous storage
- Element and thermostat upgrades
- Sacrificial anode replacement
- Electrician coordination
- Compact unit options
- Safe tray and drain installation
Servicing
Servicing & compliance
Most manufacturer warranties assume the system is serviced. An annual check on your hot water service is a minimal cost, and is the difference between a unit that lasts eight years and one that lasts twelve.
For rentals and body corporates we run scheduled servicing with full detailed reports and compliance records issued after each visit.
- Annual system service
- Tempering valve testing
- Anode inspection and replacement
- Relief valve checks
- Rental compliance reporting
- Scheduled maintenance programmes

FAQ
Hot water questions we get asked
Something not covered? Call us, we will give you a straight answer over the phone.
How quickly can you replace a hot water system?
In most cases the same day. If you call in the morning with the brand and model, we can usually arrive with a suitable replacement and have hot water back that afternoon. We stock the common gas and electric units, though a same-day swap cannot be guaranteed.
Should I repair or replace my unit?
As a rule of thumb, under eight years old and a minor fault is worth repairing. Over ten years with a major component failure, or any leak from the tank body, and replacement is the better spend. We price both options so the choice is yours.
What size hot water system do I need?
It depends on the number of people, bathrooms and how often you draw hot water at the same time. A four-person home with two bathrooms is typically a 170–250L storage unit or a 20–26L/min continuous flow. We size it on site.
How often should a hot water system be serviced?
Once a year for most storage systems. An annual check on the anode, relief valve and tempering valve is what keeps the manufacturer warranty valid and is the difference between a unit that lasts eight years and one that lasts twelve.
Do you provide a compliance certificate?
Yes. Every gas and hot water installation is certified, the paperwork is issued to you, and the manufacturer warranty is registered on your behalf.
What does it cost to get someone out?
Call us and we will talk it through properly. Every job is different, so we would rather understand what is happening than quote a generic number. No surprises, upfront pricing.
Can you quote without visiting?
Often, yes. Send photos of the issue and we can usually quote free of charge, for general maintenance and hot water work. If we find further issues on site we will let you know before doing anything.
Will you quote before replacing my hot water system?
Always. Once we have diagnosed the fault we price the repair and the replacement side by side, including removal and disposal of the old unit and the compliance certificate. Nothing is ordered or started until you have agreed to the price.
What areas do you cover?
All of Bayside Melbourne, from Mordialloc through Sandringham and Brighton up to St Kilda, Port Melbourne and the CBD, plus the inland Bayside and Glen Eira suburbs.
